Move into the light
and let me see you
slither
past the flowerbeds and over the sidewalk.
No need to try to hide
from me;
I count the moments we
have left
as sunlight gathers on the edge of the step;
I see my reflection in the pool of water you leave behind.
Slanted and obtuse, I peruse the scenery for anything tangible you’ve left
behind.
But, all is quiet again, and you are nowhere to be found.
Once more, you’ve eluded me.
And I still can’t prove you are real.
